Carlos Herrera Barraza

Violoncello

Carlos Herrera Barraza began his studies with cellist Rita Plaza Aliaga at the age of 15. In 2006 he began his formal studies at the Faculty of Arts of the University of Chile with Professor Patricio Barría and later with Julio Barrios Wattson, achieving the degree of Musical Interpreter mentioning Violoncello with maximum distinction, and in 2019 he obtained the degree of Master in Arts mentioning music under the tutelage of Martin Osten.

Carlos has taken cello lessons complementing his university studies with great teachers such as Olga Levkina and Jorge Román. He has also studied with teachers such as Heidi Litschauer, Umberto Clerici, Yuri Christiansen, Karen Ouzounian, Peter Wiley, among others.

He is currently working as assistant soloist of the Santiago Philharmonic Orchestra of the Municipal Theatre, where he has also recently become interim soloist of the violoncello section and is also a violoncello instructor in the National Youth Symphony Orchestra of the FOJI.
